Marijuana Pills

One of the biggest benefits of medical marijuana is the alternative it offers patients to highly addictive and damaging opioid pain pills. Pills can cause long-term stomach and liver issues when abused, or even worse, which leads many to the much safer alternative of cannabis. However, not everyone is comfortable smoking, and other methods of […]

Marijuana and Music: Part 1 (1910-1945)

“I don’t intend to ever stop smoking it, not as long as it grows. And there is no one on this earth that can ever stop it all from growing. No one but Jesus–and he wouldn’t dare. Because he feels the same way that I do about it.” – Louis Armstrong Marijuana and music have […]

Ohio Legalizes Medical Marijuana

Way to go Ohio.

You’re almost there. Governor and former presidential candidate John Kasich recently announced that he signed Ohio House Bill 523 into law.

The bill “authorizes the use of marijuana for medical purposes and establishes the Medical Marijuana Control Program,” his office stated.

Ohio has a love-hate relationship with medical pot though. So does Kasich.

The law will allow medical patients with a doctor’s recommendation to get weed on the black market or in other states starting around September.

The state’s own medical marijuana dispensaries won’t be up and running for at least another year.

And you’re not allowed to smoke in public. And you can’t grow it at home. And employees can still be fired for using cannabis, even if their doctors say it’s legitimate medicine.

Kasich has called recreational legalization a “terrible idea.”

Late last year he explained his stance to Stephen Colbert. “We don’t need to take the approach where we send a confusing and mixed message to our children” – where we say drugs are bad except for this one.

Colbert said we already do that with alcohol. True.

Ohio, by the way, is now the nation’s 25th medical pot state.

Bank Nixes Marijuana Firm’s Crowdfunding Hopes

Crowdfunding may not be the simple solution that cash-starved marijuana start-ups can turn to for funding.

In May, the Securities and Exchange Commission implemented new rules permitting small businesses to raise up to $1 million annually through crowdfunding.

The move was hailed in the cannabis sector as a major breakthrough that would help entrepreneurs raise capital from individuals at a time when many banks are leery of conducting business with marijuana companies.

But it may not be that easy. Just ask NextRX, a cannabis-related software firm that launched a fundraising campaign on May 16 through StartEngine Crowdfunding in

Anti-Pot Group Compares Orlando Tragedy to Marijuana ‘Threat’

The idiots at the Oregon chapter of anti-pot group Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) just compared the tragedy in Orlando, Florida to the “threat” posed by making access to marijuana easier.

U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon has been a longtime supporter of making cannabis a drug that’s easier to get for Americans. He supported recreational legalization in his home state, and he has written legislation that would have allowed U.S. veterans to obtain medical marijuana recommendations from U.S. Veterans Affairs doctors.

SAM over the weekend used the occasion of a Blumenauer tweet about the gay nightclub shooting to remind him that the group lacks intelligence.

“Words cannot express my sorrow,” the congressman tweeted. “Disgusted by this horrific act on the LGBT community & cowardice of those who won’t pass sensible gun laws.”

SAM tweeted this back: “You can’t support 1 threat to public health/public safety and then condemn another. You have failed this state.”

Blumenauer, ever wise, appeared to get the best if not last word.

“Over 32k dead from gun violence each year in US,” he tweeted. “ZERO dead from marijuana. Your comparison is delusional & shameful.”

Ouch.

Early Sunday a gunman identified as Omar Mateen opened fire at an Orlando club, killing 50 and injuring 53 before SWAT cops took him out.

Chart of the Week: Sales of Marijuana Concentrates, Edibles Surging in Colorado

By Marijuana Business Daily staff

Demand for cannabis concentrates and edibles is exploding in Colorado, offering a window into trends that will likely play out in the larger marijuana industry over time.

Retail sales of concentrates in the medical and recreational markets surged 125% in the first quarter of this year from the same period in 2015, according to BDS Analytics, which provides cannabis industry data based on point-of-sale information it gathers from retailers.

Edibles sales, meanwhile, rocketed 53%.

Those gains far outpace the 11% rise in sales of marijuana flower, showing that demand trends in Colorado’s cannabis industry
